Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are all of your camps overnight camps?
A. No, only our Traditional Camps and the Match Play Camp are for overnight campers. All of our camps are open to day campers.

Q. My child is a Super Champ player. Which camp would be best for him/her?
A. That is really a personal choice. Our Match Play Camps (July 7-12 or 14-19) are a great opportunity to get ready for the end of the summer tournaments, as well as school tryouts. Our Traditional Camps would be great as well. We divide the kids into specific groups based on ability, so give them the best training experience possible.

Q. Our child is interested in becoming a day camper at one of the Traditional Camps. What is the schedule for them?
A.
Check-in runs from Noon to 1:30 on the opening day (usually Sunday). At 2 p.m. we head to the courts for a few hours for an evaluation of the players. During the rest of the week, camp runs from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the day campers, although we are usually done by 1 p.m. on the final day (Friday).

Q. Do you have anything for younger campers?
A.
We are not offering our QuickStart Camp this summer, but do offer this during the school year at Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

Q. What is QuickStart exactly?
A.
QuickStart is a play format developed by the USTA along with others within the tennis industry. QuickStart uses "right-sized" equipment, including racquets, balls and courts. Think about it- soccer and baseball both start kids out on appropriate sized fields, with appropriate sized equipment. Now tennis is following suit. We size the court down to 36' or 60' (opposed to a regular 78' court) and use foam and decompressed balls. We also use a play format vs. just feeding balls out of a basket. This allows kids to immediately start playing tennis and creates an early love of the game. For more information, please check out www.10andundertennis.com

Q. When and where do we check-in?
A.
For the Traditional Camps (Session 1-4) and the Match Play Camp, check-in will be at The Dobie for overnight campers between Noon and 1:30 of the first day. Campers will be on their own for lunch, then we will head down to the Penick-Allison Tennis Center for a brief informational meeting and hit the courts. If you are a day camper, check-in will be at the courts, from 2:00-2:15. Pick-up will be at the tennis center at 5:30 that evening.

Q. We need to pay our balance. How can we do that?
A.
You can either go online or pay by check. To pay online, log on to your account here or mail your check to our bank in San Antonio. The University of Texas Tennis Camp, P.O. Box 47820, San Antonio, Texas, 78265.

Q. What is the tax id for the camp?
A.
The University of Texas TAX ID No. 7460000203

Q. What about check-in on Sunday?
A.
Check-in for overnight campers will be from Noon to 1:30 on Sunday at the Dobie Center. When you get there, follow the signs and greeters to our tables. We will head to the courts at 2.

For Day Campers, check-in will be from 2:00-2:15 at Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Our usual day will run from 8:15 to 4:45. If you are dropping off during the week, someone from the staff will be here by 7:45 am to watch them. We will also have someone here until 5:15 for check-out during the week.

There will be a brief introductory meeting at 2:30 for all campers at the courts at 2:30 before we take the courts. All parents are welcome to attend.
